Want to know if AWeber is the right email service provider for your online business? Whether you are just starting a new business or need to grow your web audience, AWeber is the powerfully-simple way to create awesome-looking sales funnels and landing pages that will grow your audience while making your business look great.
One of the reasons why so many people are able to operate successful businesses online is due to the availability of useful online tools that do a tremendous job of automating certain business processes – like customer relations. Keeping in touch with customers and leads is a critical task when running a business. However, a leading email marketing service provider, AWeber functions like a mini-customer-service relations army!
From capturing names and email addresses to providing professional quality newsletter templates, AWeber makes the smallest of companies look like the largest with automation that can be customized to reflect the uniqueness of your business and your customers.
There’s absolutely no denying the fact that if you wish to be highly profitable online, you MUST build an email list. Selling to warm leads and existing customers is far easier than trying to convert cold visitors (prospects).
This is why you see marketers constantly parroting the quote, “The money is in the list!” That’s definitely true. However, let’s not forget a crucial component in all of this. The money may be in the list – but where you keep the list matters greatly too.
The best way to build your list will be to use a reputable autoresponder. Since this is a very profitable online business model, there are many large companies offering email marketing services.
So, which will you choose?
They’re all not made equal. Some are infinitely better than others. So, you have to pick an autoresponder carefully.
Quick Navigation
What is AWeber?
Your email list is one of the most important assets for your online business. You can use your email to promote an affiliate program or you can use it to share information about an upcoming product launch.
If you learn how to use it correctly, your email list can help you to earn the kind of money that you want to make. But connecting with your readers will only be as successful as the mailing service that you decide to use.
If you choose one and then find that it doesn’t work well for you, you’ll have to spend a lot of time and energy on transferring your list to a different service. But you can avoid the hassle of that by choosing a reliable mailing list like AWeber from the start.
You might still be wondering: “What is AWeber? and what does it do?” AWeber is a software program that automates the process of collecting customer lead information and communicating with those leads to support increased sales.
Access to this software is made possible through a subscription that you can purchase on a monthly, quarterly, or yearly basis. Prices start at $19 per month and increase based on the size of your list.
It’s pretty simple to use once you understand what you want to achieve with the service, but is it the right service for aspiring entrepreneurs, especially online business owners? Well, that’s what we’re going to uncover in our comprehensive AWeber review.
Why You Need a Proven Email Autoresponder System
Running and operating an online business isn’t easy. We’re all struggling with burnout these days.
In fact, 52% of Americans say they burned out in 2021. Pushing yourself to grow for growth’s sake in 2022 just might overwhelm you with the possibility of burning out again.
Here’s the thing.
When it comes to scaling your business, you have to grow in a way that works best for YOU rather than allowing that burnout to sneak back in.
In general, there are three ways you can accomplish this:
- Automate routine or mindless tasks with software
- Delegate or outsource tasks to new hires, agencies, or virtual assistants
- Eliminate to-dos that don’t matter to the bottom line
Sound like a lot to figure out?
Luckily, you can do all three of these really well with email marketing. However, an ESP is the most important piece of technology to support your email marketing strategy.
Email marketing is one of the most powerful methods to build relationships and market your products and services to your audience.
Ditch Self-Hosted Autoresponders
Avoid using self-hosted autoresponders! They’re usually created by ‘smaller’ marketers and lack the features and automation that the managed services provide.
Very often, the self-hosted autoresponders only have one thing going for them – a low one-time fee. But you always get what you pay for. If you have deliverability issues, etc. you’ll have to sort them out yourself.
Not to mention, most self-hosted autoresponders do not have as many integrations and customization features as the ‘big guns’. So, it’s best to pick a managed solution even if it means forking out a monthly or yearly fee.
Mention autoresponders and you’ll always see a few big names being mentioned.
Very often, the name AWeber will make an appearance and you’ll see marketers raving about it. Boasting many features and integrations, as well as quick and friendly support, they do sound like a powerhouse email marketing tool. But does it live up to the hype?
Let’s look at the pros and cons of AWeber…

Benefits of AWeber
Think about the work that would be involved if you did not have an automated service like AWeber to manage your communications with leads and customers. You’d have to manually record the names of anyone who was interested in your business.
You then would have to collect all the names from your contact form database (or slips of paper!) and draft a letter to each to thank them for showing interest in your product or service. You’d then have to figure out the timing for contacting each person for a follow-up as that would depend on when they signed up for more information.
If you had only 2 people signing up a month that might be manageable but hopefully you want to create a thriving, profitable business and that usually requires a lot more than 2 prospects a month. Ideally, you want to be getting several prospects a day! Can you imagine how impossible it would be to create a system yourself for maintaining communications with dozens of new prospects a week?
Be a One-Person Marketing Machine
This is why the automated email marketing service provided by AWeber is so invaluable. With AWeber, your prospects will be automatically added to a secure database that you do not have to maintain. You also don’t have to manually respond to every new subscriber to your list. Everything is automated.
Once you set up your campaign you can then sit back and monitor the results provided to you via AWeber’s measurement reports which can tell you everything from what percentage of your list opened your email to which subscribers clicked on the links you provided within your email message. With this kind of knowledge, you can edit and adjust your email marketing strategy to better fit the interests and motivations of the people who’ve subscribed to your list.
With AWeber, you can be a one-person marketing machine able to launch a professional marketing campaign using the power of email and effective communications to convert prospects into paying customers.
Now that we know what AWeber does, let’s find out what other features it offers.
Proven Stability
If autoresponders were animals, AWeber would be a dinosaur. It’s probably the oldest autoresponder of the lot and was around when online marketing began.
That probably attests to the fact as to why it’s still popular even though it’s nowhere as sleek or user-friendly as the latest email marketing software such as ConvertKit or Active Campaign.
Nevertheless, AWeber is still a goliath in this email marketing scene and is a solid, proven, and trusted autoresponder.
Powerfully-Simple Pricing
Marketers on a tighter budget will be able to afford AWeber which costs less than $20 a month, unlike other more expensive solutions.
Wide Array of Forms & Email Templates
You have a lot of flexibility when it comes to creating forms and emails with AWeber. There are more than 700 email templates to choose with the usual customization options or simply use their drag and drop editor. You can include images in your emails and you can send HTML versions of your newsletter.
Yes, AWeber also allows you to personalize your email messages with data from your client. If you collect both the first names and the email addresses of your subscribers, then you can send email messages that greet those subscribers by name.
Good Suite of Handy Features
For quite a long time, AWeber was lagging behind in some of the more recent features that its competitors were offering such as tagging, etc.
However, AWeber seems to have caught up, and are they’re trying to be competitive now rather than relying on old customer habits to stay with them. Automations, tagging, segmenting, split testing, etc. are all available in AWeber now.
Generally Easy to Use
The AWeber interface is clean and relatively uncomplicated. While it does seem clunkier than GetResponse and ConvertKit, once you’re familiar with the layout, you’ll be able to use AWeber easily. It’s a lot less complicated than Infusionsoft or Mailchimp.
Detailed Reporting & Analytics
This is one area where AWeber truly shines. They even have an app that you can download to analyze your stats. Wow! This dinosaur is really picking up the pace here.
We’re not going into the specific tracking features. Just know that it’s detailed enough to track sales, subscriber actions, and so on.
Interfaces with Canva
This is something interesting that we didn’t see with the other autoresponders. You can actually use Canva within your AWeber interface to create images and so on. This is brilliant. Good ol’ T-Rex AWeber is definitely beautifying its emails.
However, since it has been in the business for so long, AWeber also integrates with hundreds of third-party solutions ranging from PayPal to Zapier. You can see the list on the official website.
Generally, if you have a tool that doesn’t integrate with other autoresponders, you’ll want to check if it works with AWeber. In most cases, it just might.
Good Customer Support
Just like all the popular autoresponder companies, AWeber has great 24/7 prompt customer support too.
Account Migration
If you’re with another autoresponder and would like to move your lists, tags, subscribers, etc. – all you need to do is fill out a form and AWeber will move your lists and stuff for you. Easy peasy!
Knowledgebase and Tutorials
Don’t panic. If you have no idea how to use AWeber, they have tons of articles and video tutorials to guide you. Via their webinars, you can watch to learn about how to send your first email, how to use social media marketing, and how to understand your email analytics. You can even ask questions at the webinar and get answers from AWeber’s supportive staff.
Therefore, you’ll have no problem figuring out this platform.
Good Deliverability Rate
Despite being on the scene for so long, AWeber still manages to get its members’ emails into the subscribers’ inboxes without fail (for the most part). The litmus test of any autoresponder is its deliverability rate – and AWeber does a good job here.
Unlock the Power of Automations with Campaigns
Campaigns allow you to deliver targeted email sequences automatically on a schedule of your choosing.
This keeps your subscribers engaged and builds lasting relationships with your subscribers, no matter where you are or what you’re doing.
With Campaigns, AWeber’s email automation platform, you can:
- Create unlimited Campaigns on a single list.
- Target your Campaigns to all subscribers or specific groups of subscribers (e.g., if you have multiple sign up forms or landing pages).
- Use action-based automations to add or remove tags from subscribers, or remove them from a Campaign, when they open an email or click a link.
- Automatically add subscribers to a Campaign when they open a Broadcast message, click a link in a Broadcast message, visit a webpage, or abandon a shopping cart.
- Remove subscribers from a Campaign when they’re tagged outside of a Campaign (e.g., if they make a purchase through PayPal).
- Allow subscribers to go through your Campaign multiple times.
- Add and remove tags automatically during the sequence of the Campaign.
- Add a time delay at the beginning of your Campaign.
- Easily pause, close, or stop your Campaigns.
Drawbacks of AWeber
Despite the fact that AWeber has done a lot to catch up with the newer autoresponders, its interface still needs a better look.
It also charges users for subscribers who are on the subscribed and unsubscribed lists. This isn’t really fair, and while the onus is on the user to delete their ‘unsubs’, it’s still a hassle and AWeber has been in the business long enough to have created a solution for this.
Is AWeber Right For You?
I’ve used AWeber in the past, and overall, it is a great choice for any start-up, solopreneur, or small business owner as it has all the features you need to:
- Send email broadcasts
- Create autoresponders and email campaigns
- Run automations
- Segment your list
- Create landing pages
Unlike many other email marketing platforms, AWeber does not have any rule that says you can’t use its service for affiliate marketing.
If you are considering sending out affiliate offers, then be sure to use a platform that actually allows it. Many others such as MailChimp and even ConvertKit do not allow it.
We recommend signing up for the free trial and testing it out for yourself… and also trying out the other popular autoresponders.
This is a very competitive industry and most autoresponders have similar features with some focusing on a few strengths. However, what really matters is that you like using the tool and feel at ease with it.
While some people swear by AWeber, many have switched to GetResponse or MailerLite because they felt it was a better solution for them.
You need to see if AWeber is suitable for you. So, give it a try and decide for yourself. As far as autoresponders go, AWeber is just as strong a contender as any. If you’d like to sign up for an account,
