Quick Navigation
Building A Successful Blog
Operating a blog as a business doesn’t just mean you are your own boss (although that’s a huge perk!). You also experience significant changes in your life.
A sure method of blogging to win is to copy the habits of successful bloggers. Yet, an important point to consider is that you must treat blogging as a long-term investment.
Foolish is the person who invests today with the expectation of an immediate reward. No farmer plants a seed and reaps the fruit on the same day. Come on! Yes, some seeds grow and mature within a year, while others may take longer.
Building a successful blog is a long-term investment. Simply read the reviews and interviews of famous bloggers sharing how they got started blogging. Most would reveal just how long they had to wait before they started to reap any benefits.
After reading reviews of the most popular blogs, you will agree that blogging isn’t a get rich quick scheme. Oh yes, it absolutely takes dedication, perseverance, and patience to climb the ladder of success in blogging.
Yet, adopting the habits of professional bloggers will contribute positively to your blogging goals. You can also decide to join a mastermind with other professional bloggers if you really are serious about growing your blog.
Such blogging groups provide the much-needed support and inspiration for the solopreneur.
Are you still wondering if blogging really is profitable? Or perhaps you are in search of steps to become a better blogger. If you are passionate about blogging, then you need to seriously consider the habits of professional bloggers.
Let’s look at seven habits of today’s most successful bloggers.
1) Successful Bloggers Publish Consistently
“Consistency is one of the biggest factors in leading to accomplishment and success.” ~ Byron Pulsifer
Please do not misunderstand me. I’m not saying you should post every day. But you will never find a successful blogger without a posting schedule. They avoid the chances of not regularly publishing blog articles.
To succeed in the blogging industry, consistency must be your watchword. Your readers expect to always find something new to read when they visit your blog.
Employ the use of an editorial calendar to facilitate publishing quality content on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. It is a proven strategy that can help you boost readership, increase traffic to your blog, and build a reputable brand.
2) Successful Bloggers Build Trust
“Trust takes years to build, seconds to break, and forever to repair.” I submit that trust is perhaps one of the most important business and brand assets you manage. This is true, especially in relationships with your clients, customers, stakeholders, and employees.
Being trustworthy is essential because it is the basis around which all human relationships revolve. Without trust, there can be no relationship. I often quote that ‘relationships yield transactions.’
Our economies thrive basically because people trust each other and the businesses they support. It is worth gold whether in business, friendships or family. Therefore, every interaction, such as email marketing, is a chance to build relationships and nurture trust.
Trust is important because if you don’t trust someone then they are not available. But when you can trust a person it creates a bond of loyalty that runs deep.
Know, Like + Trust Factor = The process someone has to go through to buy from you. They have to know you, like you and trust you before they will spend money with you.
In the blogging industry, you will go nowhere without trust. Did you know that for most solopreneur websites, the “about me” page is one of the most-visited pages?
The “about me” page is the section of a website where people go to find out about the website they’re on. Blog readers will visit this section for many reasons and with various questions, they want to be answered. However, your objective is the same: to inform them why they are on your site or why they should be on your site.
Your readers want to know who you are. Expose them to your writing style, your passion for your audience, and a flexible post frequency. Do this and they will trust you and just may become a loyal fan of your blog.
The Bottom Line: Building trust can help you drive more traffic to your blog.
3) Successful Bloggers Stand Out From The Crowd
Look closely and you’ll notice that most popular blogs have developed a unique writing style. Every personality is unique. This makes writing in your own voice and the way you speak as the easiest way to develop an individual style.
Writing every day is the only way to smooth your rough edges and perfect your craft. This is practiced by bloggers merely to differentiate their content from the competition. That’s also why the most successful bloggers tend to specialize within targeted niches.
Let’s say you want to blog about family travel: writing generally about the topic will mean competing against a lot of established names and success will be a lot harder to find.
Instead, you could try narrowly focusing on an area of family travel that not many people are currently blogging about. For example, family travel with elderly parents or family travel in The Bahamas.
To become a successful blogger, you must appeal to your readers, differentiate yourself from your competitors and leverage your unique writing style. Explore these strategies that could set your blog apart for the long haul.
The Bottom Line: Having a unique writing style and tone will create subscriber loyalty and help you to stand out from the crowd.
4) Successful Bloggers Provide Value
So your next question is: how do you make your blog content valuable to your readers?
You must ensure that your readers find value in the content you post on your blog. Are articles helpful, original, unique, do they solve a problem or provide a great experience?
There is no secret formula or trademark process. Simply provide value to your blog readership by giving them great content to share with their own social networks. Aside from having sharing buttons on each blog post, include a captivating image so they can look like a hero when your post is shared.
This blog exists to help my readers find solutions to specific problems. Hence, I’m driven to create more “problem-solving content”. It is also prudent, to be honest, and transparent with everything you share on your blog, whether it’s a case study, product review, or income report.
Blog readership is vital to your career as a blogger. This is why you should create content that attracts blog readers and optimize posts to increase blog traffic. Take time to listen and respond to their thoughts, questions, ideas, opinions, and concerns. This demonstrates that you do value and appreciate everyone that reads your content.
The Bottom Line: Your audience will only respect your opinion if you value and make them feel important.
5) Successful Bloggers Are Business-minded
Yes indeed. They treat their blogs as a business. Actually, in many instances, successful bloggers are risk-takers. You must zealously guard your blog as if you operated a multi-million-dollar business. Set goals for yourself and use strategies that will help your blog grow.
Successful bloggers are innovators and powerful marketers. To achieve success as a blogger, be ready to learn and master lead generation, affiliate marketing, and sales funnels.
Grow your social media following, target your best audience add automate the process. Expand your knowledge of Search Engine Optimization to help you rank your blog via search engines.
The Bottom Line: If you are not ready to take risks, try new approaches or invest in your blog, then you’re not quite ready to become a successful blogger.
6) Successful Bloggers Have Patience
Another great thing about highly successful bloggers is that they are patient. So, if you are the impatient type, you have two options here to choose from. You can decide to choose another career, or work on yourself.
Many famous bloggers shared that blogging takes a while before it yields. The motto of master bloggers is BE PATIENT! They keep on working hard while waiting for the results to come.
It was hard but it took me four years before I started to get any traction to my blogs. The early returns from blogging might be relatively low to what you invested, but with time, the return grows and improves.
The Bottom Line: Blogging doesn’t yield the same day you start uploading content. The plant you water today will become a tree tomorrow.
7) Successful Bloggers Keep On Learning
I am the first to admit that I’m an Online Course Junkie. Yet, I will never act as if I know it all. But I can’t imagine where I would be now without investing in Yaro Starak’s Blog Profit Blueprint, my first online course.
Since then I’ve taken many coaching and online courses about how to create online courses. I’ve particularly enjoyed Suzi Whitford’s Blog by Number, Course by Number, and eBook by Number courses.
Jonathan Milligan’s Blogging Your Passion courses are similar to watching Netflix – can’t get enough.
But I finally pulled the trigger on Elite Blog Academy, to learn exactly how to build the online business of my dreams! You can’t be lazy, cheap or afraid to keep on researching and learning new things. If you want to stay ahead in blogging, you have to keep learning.
The Bottom Line: Readers are leaders. The more you read, the more you learn.
