WordPress Blog vs Website

The Showdown: WordPress Blog vs Website – Which Is Better?

The easiest way to build a platform in today’s world is to start a blog. While you can do this with free hosted options like WordPress.com, TypePad.com, and Blogger.com, you will get the most control by using self-hosted WordPress. This is what most serious bloggers use. It is what I use here at RicardoNewbold.com.

When you start making your own content, it can be hard to know where to put it. Some people will tell you to make a website while others will argue that a blog will be the best option.

Let’s take a closer look at the blog vs website, to help you decide which one you want to use.

What Is A Blog And How Does It Work?

We’ll begin by looking at a blog. Though there are many different types of blogs online, they all share a few common characteristics. First, they feature posts, which are written articles. In most cases, there will be various categories for you to choose from, depending on the topic covered. The most recent post will also appear at the top of the page.

There are a few ways that a blog will work, depending on how the author wants to set them up. For example, some people might want to focus on monetizing the content. In other cases, the blog might focus primarily on informing the audience.

In other cases, the audience might be written to share personal perspectives with the viewer.

Difference Between Blogs And Websites

Now that we know what a blog is, we can focus on how it’s different from a website. First, blogs tend to be updated more frequently. Most blogs will add at least one new post per week. For others, they can be adding several new articles each day.

However, a website tends to be more static. In most cases, they won’t update the pages frequently and the design of the site will stay constant.

Another key difference is how they’re organized. Websites tend to feature pages. These can be seen at the top of the page. For example, most sites will feature an about page and a home page. On the other hand, blogs will be organized into categories, based on the content.

Finally, it should be noted that you can have both a blog and a website. In most cases, website owners will use a blog to bring traffic to the site, then direct the visitors to one of their pages. This will allow them to monetize the site. Because of this, distinguishing a blog and a website can be very difficult.

Conclusion

When considering the difference between a blog and a website, many people want to know which one will benefit them the most. This will often depend on what you’re planning to get out of the experience. For example, because they tend to have static content, it can be easier to set-up and maintain a website.

However, a blog will often deliver the best traffic, as you’ll constantly be publishing new content. In most cases, though, you’ll need to take a hybrid approach, running both a website and a blog. This will let you get the best of both worlds. Hopefully, you now have a better idea of how blogs and websites work, so you can find which one is right for you.
